Fairshake and Digital Freedom Fund spent $63 million opposing Sherrod Brown, whose Ohio victory returns the Democrat to the U.S. Senate as Democrats regain control of the chamber.
The groups’ combined spending against Brown exceeded their roughly $40 million effort in 2024, when he lost his Senate seat.
Brown defeated Republican Jon Husted, who supported cryptocurrency legislation including the Clarity Act. Husted earned an A rating from Stand With Crypto, a crypto advocacy group, while Brown received an F, according to EconoTimes’ earlier account of the candidates’ crypto positions.
Brown previously chaired the Senate Banking Committee and called for action against cryptocurrency use to finance terrorism or evade sanctions. He may become chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, whose remit includes digital assets and prediction markets.
The result gives Democrats a Senate pickup as lawmakers weigh federal digital-asset policy.
