Ohio Sen. Jon Husted joked that President Donald Trump’s comments about his physique prompted him to hit the gym, as Husted campaigns against former Sen. Sherrod Brown in a Nov. 3 special election.

During a Saturday interview with Fox News host Aishah Hasnie, Husted said he told his wife the next morning that he should go to the gym. “I gotta keep working out,” he said.

Husted also said he played college football and that his wife runs marathons, describing his family as athletic.

Rally recordings and transcripts show Trump discussing Husted’s physique at appearances in North Carolina and Ohio. At the North Carolina rally, Trump commented on Husted’s backside, legs, feet and shoulders. EconoTimes previously covered Trump’s remarks about Husted’s physique.

A Cook Political Report poll released this week put Brown ahead of Husted, 49% to 43%.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Husted to the Senate on Jan. 17, 2025. A writ of election set the Nov. 3, 2026, special election to fill the vacancy.
