House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries outlined health care and oversight priorities as Democrats prepare to control both chambers in January, The Guardian reported, setting up a policy clash with President Donald Trump.

Jeffries said Democrats would seek to restore premium tax credits for Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans and reverse Medicaid cuts approved by Republicans last year. He also said the party would pursue measures aimed at countering Trump’s tariffs and ending the conflict with Iran.

Jeffries said no member of the House Democratic Caucus had discussed impeachment with him. He said the caucus had focused on affordability and accountability. His latest remarks follow his earlier position that he had not ruled out impeachment.

Rep. Robert Garcia, who is expected to lead the House investigative oversight panel, said inquiries could examine corruption allegations involving Department of Homeland Security (DHS) contracting. He also cited lawmakers’ stock trades, corporate profiteering and the government’s release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein as possible subjects. The change in committee leadership next year will give Democrats subpoena authority, The Guardian reported.

Rep. Greg Casar said the proposed bills could help Democrats build a platform for the 2028 presidential campaign, even if Trump vetoes them. The Guardian noted that Trump can veto legislation and Senate Republicans can use the filibuster against bills that lack 60 votes. Trump was impeached twice before, and Senate Republicans blocked his removal; Democrats also used the filibuster against bills earlier in his term, the report said. Committee leadership changes next year are the next step in Democrats’ oversight push.
