Andreessen Horowitz’s a16z Frontier fund will consider a wider range of technology businesses, while a16z Managing Partner Chris Dixon cited fintech stablecoin use as one example of crypto’s overlap with other sectors.

The firm announced Oct. 22 that it had renamed a16z Crypto as a16z Frontier. Its expanded investment scope includes AI, autonomous machines, biology and medicine, and networks connecting people with AI agents. Crypto investments remain part of the mandate. The announcement did not specify how investments would be divided among those areas.

Dixon made his remarks Oct. 23. He also pointed to rapid growth in asset tokenization and said the team would explore areas other investors have given less attention. He said it would keep looking for opportunities arising indirectly from technological advances.
