It is safe to say that “Domestic Girlfriend” is one of the breakout anime adaptations released this year based on the same title original manga series written and illustrated by Kei Sasuga. It is then not surprising that there is a continuous demand for producers to announce the making of “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2. However, some viewers have already accepted the possibility that the anime series might no longer be renewed.

Domestic Girlfriend' season 2 renewed or canceled: Why some think season 2 is not happening

The first season was completed in 12 episodes and ended with a major cliffhanger. Natsuo and Hina decided to part ways as they both find their happiness. On the other hand, Rui decided not to dilly-dally anymore. With Hina gone (for now), Rui decided to declare her love for Natsuo and suggested that she will make more efforts to woo him. These premises are certainly exciting enough to make fans want to see “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2.

However, it has been several months now since season 1 concluded. It is unusual for producers of a rookie anime series to hold off announcing a sequel, especially if the anime adaptation is planned to go on as long as there are enough manga materials. This way, fans who learned about the series through the anime adaptation will remain excited about it. So, does the lack of any update about “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 means it is not happening?

There is a possibility that is the case. Some fans advised other viewers just to follow the story through the manga series because the anime was allegedly not meant to have “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2. The first 12 episodes were reportedly released only to make the manga more popular.

Domestic Girlfriend' season 2 spoilers: Major character developments await

Some fans simply prefer to follow a story through anime series. But with “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2’s uncertain future, they might not want to miss out on the new characters that help in the character development of Natsuo, Hina, and Rui.

Fans can do this by catching up on the next events by reading the manga. As of this writing, 245 chapters have been released, and the original series is not showing any signs of ending in the near future. With this much source materials, it is really hard to rule out “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2.
