During his single term as president, Donald Trump and his election victory in 2016 were often linked to Russia and its possible interference. Russian media outlets this week have reportedly expressed that they missed the twice-impeached former president.
Julia Davis of The Daily Beast reports that Russian media personalities have expressed nostalgia for Trump’s presidency, when the now-former president would repeat supposed Russian propaganda in casting doubt on the US intelligence community, especially with its claims that Russia interfered in the 2020 elections, which he lost to Joe Biden.
Davis especially noted that Russian tv host Vladimir Soloviev was especially happy to see the former president appear on Fox News, saying that the US should not intervene to help Ukraine in its ongoing tensions with Russia. Davis also touched on how Russian state media outlets have praised the former president’s attacks on his successor.
They also praised Trump for his stance on Ukraine, saying that if it was up to the former president, there would be no need for a summit, like the video call between Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin that occurred this week.
“Things were so good under Trump, listen to Trumpushka!” said Soloviev, who added that the former president was “solely missed.”
Soloviev also played a clip of Trump blasting special counsel Robert Mueller, who investigated the links between Russia and the Trump campaign, saying that the former president “said it well” and even thanked him for his comments.
The former president is at the center of a number of investigations, two of which are in New York regarding his businesses. This week, New York Attorney General Letitia James requested that the former president testify at her office on January 7. The deposition is part of James’ investigation into the Trump Organization’s alleged manipulation of property values to obtain loans and tax breaks, according to the Washington Post.
The paper added that one of the people familiar with the matter revealed that James is investigating whether there was “widespread fraud” in the Trump Organization.
Aside from James, the Manhattan District Attorney is also looking into the Trump Organization and its business practices.
