The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development expects a record €2.7 billion investment in Türkiye in 2026, as it expands green financing and supports decarbonization in industry and rail.

EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso said the forecast would mark a record annual total. Anadolu Agency reported Thursday that she made the remarks at the bank’s London headquarters. Renaud-Basso said €1.7 billion had gone to green projects so far in 2026, covering areas such as energy efficiency and electrification. She described the EBRD as Türkiye’s largest institutional investor.

Renaud-Basso cited about $426.7 million in investment for the Türkiye Industrial Decarbonization Investment Platform (TIDIP), a Türkiye-led initiative. The platform brings Turkish private companies together with the EBRD, other multilateral development banks, private investors and concessional funding. Participants are working to bring new technologies and approaches to industries with high pollution levels, with the stated aim of improving energy efficiency.

The bank also plans to invest in Türkiye’s railways to support electrification, Renaud-Basso said. She linked rising green-energy investment to energy security and costs. She said the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s war with Ukraine and the Middle East conflict affected markets but also accelerated the shift to cleaner energy. Supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have added to interest in renewables, she said.

Renaud-Basso urged governments to align regulations and fiscal policies with targets for market incentives, energy efficiency and recycling, saying consistent policies can help attract financing. She said Türkiye would use the COP31 climate summit to present progress on its Paris Agreement commitments. The conference is scheduled for Antalya on Nov. 9-20.
