European Union officials are prepared to join a later phase of negotiations on Russia’s war in Ukraine, the European Commission said Friday, while making Moscow’s willingness to engage a condition for meaningful talks.

At a Brussels briefing, European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho answered a question about planned talks among Russia, Ukraine and the United States and whether the EU would send a representative at a later stage. “Of course we are prepared,” she said, adding that the bloc had been preparing for a long time and was waiting for Russia to be ready for substantive discussions aimed at ending the war.

Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said in an interview with Vesti that Russia was ready to resume trilateral talks with Ukraine and the United States after Nov. 4. EconoTimes previously covered Russia’s readiness for the proposed trilateral talks.

Ushakov’s stated readiness window begins after Nov. 4, but Pinho named no EU negotiator or meeting date in her response.
