The euro traded at $1.1145 against the dollar late Wednesday, Reuters reported, as markets awaited the European Central Bank’s policy decision and U.S. data due earlier Thursday.
Reuters put the quote at 11:48 p.m. ET Wednesday (03:48 UTC Thursday), after a 0.3% gain in the previous session. The ECB had scheduled its policy announcement for 9:15 a.m. ET Thursday (13:15 UTC), followed by a news conference at 9:45 a.m. ET (13:45 UTC).
The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) had scheduled the advance estimate of third-quarter 2026 GDP and September 2026 personal income and outlays for 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC). The monthly report includes the personal consumption expenditures price index and was due 45 minutes before the ECB announcement.
The Federal Reserve held its target range at 3.75%-4.00% Wednesday in a 10-2 vote. Federal Reserve Governor Lisa D. Cook and Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President Beth M. Hammack dissented in favor of a 25-basis-point increase. Reuters said the dollar wavered as traders reduced expectations for future increases, while FXStreet linked dollar demand to expectations for a more hawkish Fed.
FXStreet analyst Haresh Menghani said EUR/USD had recovered from around $1.1110 on Wednesday, a level the outlet described as the pair’s weakest since May 2025. Menghani identified $1.1115-$1.1110 as a support range and said a break below it could leave the euro open to further declines.
The ECB’s latest published decision, dated Sept. 10, raised its rates effective Sept. 16. The rates on the deposit facility, main refinancing operations and marginal lending facility were set at 2.50%, 2.65% and 2.90%, respectively. The Governing Council said it was “not pre-committing to a particular rate path.”
