NEW YORK, Dec. 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Join EarthCam for its 20th New Year's Eve international webcast on December 31st with live views of the non-stop celebrations from exciting locations around the world. To celebrate EarthCam's 20th anniversary of webcasting the biggest party of the year, the webcam technology leader has installed four new permanent cameras at strategic viewing points in Times Square, New York City.
Three of EarthCam's new StreamCam HD cameras are robotic and capable of panning 180° to create incredible panoramas. All of the cameras feature extremely high-resolution 1080p video, which creates a more realistic experience for viewers, making them feel like they're actually in the heart of New York City. One of the key benefits of the new cameras is the ability to obtain a good exposure with various light sources, such as the bright billboards, and areas that are not well-lit, like the dark crowd-filled streets. With a wide angle lens, visitors will be able to appreciate how massive the gathering is in Times Square. Theatrics are a big part of the celebrations at the "Crossroads of the World", including intricate light shows and fireworks displays. The new technology contains image sensors that are 50% larger than the previous cameras, increasing the sensitivity to color, which means all of the special effects and spectacular billboards will be showcased more vividly than ever before.
"I'm excited to bring the latest in webcam technology to Times Square, considering 20 years ago we were the first to ever webcast from this famous location," said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam. "At that time, the best bandwidth available was 128kbps and we were lucky to get an image a minute at 1/10th the resolution of our cameras today. Since pioneering the industry in 1996, we've been committed to providing innovative webcam services so people can connect with the #1 tourist destination in the world."
With EarthCam's worldwide webcams, people are invited to travel from time zone to time zone and relive that magic moment at midnight when it officially becomes 2016. With live streaming HD cameras, take in the sights and sounds that make this night so special. The party begins in Boracay, a remote island in the Philippines, and then it's off to locations including Japan, the UAE, France, Ireland, Jamaica and Brazil. Celebrations kick off in the U.S. with the famous ball drop in Times Square and viewers can also celebrate with New Orleans, Chicago, San Francisco, Kauai and more.
