Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) said a bus-truck crash killed 13 people and injured more than 34 in Faiyum Governorate on Oct. 20, and directed an insurance pool to begin compensation procedures.
The regulator described its casualty figures as preliminary. Al-Ahram reported 34 injuries on the Cairo-Asyut Western Desert Road, a different count from the regulator’s figure of more than 34. The Health Ministry’s earlier tally of 12 deaths and 30 injuries was lower.
FRA Chairman Islam Azzam said eligible beneficiaries would receive 100,000 Egyptian pounds for each person killed, subject to accident documentation and confirmation of valid compulsory insurance. Payments for injuries will depend on the disability percentage certified by the Medical Commission.
The Egyptian Compulsory Insurance Pool said its representatives would contact victims’ families to collect the documents needed for compensation.
