Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign reported more than $2.4 million in donations on Nov. 1, setting a campaign-reported single-day record as Michigan’s Senate race nears Election Day.
The campaign’s Nov. 2 release said the average contribution was $36.74, with more than 65,000 donors, including 29,602 first-time donors. Campaign spokesperson Cole Wozniak said the result reflected “the excitement that Abdul’s movement has inspired in the hearts of Michiganders.”
The fundraising came on the day U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens announced her support for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers. Stevens lost the August Democratic primary to El-Sayed. EconoTimes previously covered Stevens’ endorsement of Rogers.
The campaign did not provide a time breakdown, so its release does not establish how much came in before or after Stevens’ announcement. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) candidate summary lists receipts through Oct. 14 and does not include the campaign’s reported Nov. 1 total.
The Michigan Department of State lists El-Sayed and Rogers as the Democratic and Republican candidates for U.S. Senate, with Election Day set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
