‘Emerald City’ season 1’s episode 8 titled, “Lions in Winter,” is set to follow Glinda as she tasks Lucas with a difficult mission that will put him in a challenging position. Meanwhile, West is intent on helping Tip and defeating The Wizard by using dangerous magic.
The synopsis for “Lions in Winter” posted on TV Guide reads, “Glinda (Joely Richardson) reclaims something she's been searching for after Dorothy (Adria Arjona) and Lucas (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) arrive at her castle.
Meanwhile, the Wizard (Vincent D’Onofrio) heads to the Kingdom of Ev; West (Ana Ularu) uses dangerous magic to help Tip (Jordan Loughran); and Jack (Gerran Howell) struggles to find his place in Langwidere's (Stefanie Martini) life.”
The preceding episode revealed that Lucas, whose identity remained a mystery, discovered who he truly was. According to the recap posted on Den of Geek, Lucas realized that he loved the former Witch of the North, Glinda, and that he vowed to continue the fight against The Wizard, who outland the use of magic in the realm.
Based on the synopsis, Dorothy and Lucas will make their way to the castle, giving Glinda the chance to reclaim something that she has been looking for. Perhaps this would aid her in defeating The Wizard as she has been living in hatred ever since he banned magic.
Meanwhile, The Wizard will journey to Ev in order to build his weapons arsenal to kill the witches. He previously went on a rampage in his paranoid mania by burning his council alive and gathering all young girls suspected as witches.
West also discovered Tip’s real identity in the previous episode. Tip, a teenage girl recently freed from a spell that kept her a boy the entire time, was actually the daughter of King Pastoria and was named Princess Ozma. This meant that Tip is the rightful heir to King Pastoria’s throne and is the true ruler of Oz.
It seems that West is willing to risk dangerous magic in order to help Tip in restoring her birthright in the upcoming episode. The promo reveals that West has gathered a group of witches in the forest to storm Emerald city and help in her cause.
Glinda also instructs Lucas to kill Dorothy saying that if he does, his heart will be freed. It will be interesting to see how Lucas will deal with this new mission.
‘Emerald City’ season 1’s episode 8 titled, “Lions in Winter,” was directed by Tarsem Singh and is scheduled to air on NBC on February 17, 2017. It will be followed by episode 9, titled "The Villain That's Become," scheduled to air on February 24.
