MAGA donor Eric Deters filed a defamation lawsuit in Kentucky against former U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and members of her legal team, escalating a dispute over a reported $100,000 payment request.

The Independent reported that Deters filed the case in Kentucky state court Thursday. CBS News reported that the suit names attorneys Jesse Binnall and David M. Schwartz along with Guilfoyle. In a Facebook video, Deters said the case might bring down the Trump administration and could end the JD Vance/Marco Rubio ticket.

The Wall Street Journal reported that a $100,000 American Express bill was at the center of the dispute. The newspaper said Deters was seeking help with personal tax and legal matters when Guilfoyle asked him to cover the bill, and that she offered to raise his issues with the administration. Deters said he did not pay and denies owing her money. Guilfoyle’s legal team disputed the authenticity of messages Deters shared with media outlets, The Independent reported.

The lawsuit follows Guilfoyle’s resignation as ambassador after a White House request. Guilfoyle said on social media that she would contest allegations she described as false.
