Ethereum will test Glamsterdam on the Hoodi network Oct. 26, advancing changes to how blocks are built and checked while leaving the date for deployment on its main network unresolved.
The Ethereum Foundation scheduled activation for 1:42:48 p.m. ET (17:42:48 UTC), when Hoodi’s block gas limit is set to increase to 200 million gas. The Foundation said it will announce mainnet timing separately.
The test follows Glamsterdam’s Oct. 6 activation on Sepolia. EconoTimes included the Hoodi activation in its October events calendar. Users of Ethereum’s main network need take no action for the Hoodi change, the Foundation said.
Glamsterdam spans Ethereum’s execution and consensus layers. Its planned rules revise gas charges for creating and accessing network state, add access lists covering entire blocks and separate the roles of block proposers and builders within the protocol. The Foundation says the changes are intended to alter block production and allow more validation work to proceed in parallel.
Bitwise’s account of earlier capacity increases shows the economic trade-off. The four transaction types it tracks cost an average of $0.45 in the third quarter of 2026, down from $1.35 in the same quarter a year earlier. Bitwise said users benefited from lower fees, while less Ether (ETH) was burned and validators and stakers received less execution income.
Staking continued to grow during the quarter. Bitwise reported that active validators held 43.80 million ETH at quarter’s end, or 35.9% of supply, after net inflows of 1.99 million ETH. Gross annualized staking yield averaged 2.63%, down from 2.81% in the second quarter. Those figures precede the Hoodi activation and do not measure Glamsterdam’s effects.
The Foundation gave no price estimate in its announcement. The next scheduled step is the Oct. 26 Hoodi activation; a mainnet date will be announced separately.
