FXStreet reported sterling at 210.64 yen, up 0.15%, at 8:32:32 a.m. EDT (12:32:32 GMT) on Oct. 29, before the Bank of Japan’s policy decision and October outlook scheduled for Oct. 30.

The quote was an intraday reading, not a closing price. The bank’s calendar listed its two-day meeting for Oct. 29-30 and its policy statement and October outlook for Oct. 30, without a set announcement time.

At its Sept. 18 meeting, the BoJ voted 7-2 to guide the uncollateralized overnight call rate to around 1.25%, effective Sept. 24. EconoTimes previously covered the sterling-yen rate gap ahead of this week’s Budget and BoJ meeting.

Reuters reported that four unnamed people familiar with the bank’s thinking expected it to leave rates unchanged at the October meeting. In their account, further yen weakness could raise import costs and inflation enough to alter that expectation; they also viewed a December rate increase as possible.

The UK’s Oct. 28 Budget set a £100 Household Energy Payment from January 2027 for households in Council Tax bands A-D in England, covering up to 20 million households. HM Treasury identifies a temporary increase in the Bank Corporation Tax Surcharge as a funding source: the rate is scheduled to rise from 3% to 6% from Jan. 1, 2027, through Mar. 31, 2028.

For Oct. 30, Japan’s Statistics Bureau had scheduled preliminary Tokyo-area October CPI data for 7:30 p.m. EDT Thursday (8:30 a.m. JST Friday), along with the September basic tabulation of the Labour Force Survey.
