‘Fargo’ season 3’s episode 2, titled “The Principle of Restricted Choice,” is set to follow Gloria as she continues her investigation on the murder of Ennis. Meanwhile, Emmit will get a large delivery from Vargas while Ray and Nikki attempt to plan out their next move.
The short synopsis for “The Principle of Restricted Choice” posted on TV Guide reads, “Gloria (Carrie Coon) deals with the aftermath of a crime; Vargas (David Thewlis) makes a move; and Ray (Ewan McGregor) and Nikki (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) move on to Plan B.”
The upcoming episode is set to follow Gloria as she gets deeper in the investigation for the murder of Ray and Emmit’s (Ewan McGregor) father, Ennis Stussy (Scott Hylands). The promo opens to Gloria in the Sherriff’s office. She begins their meeting carefully saying, “Sherriff, I’m not trying to stir things up---“ The Sherriff interrupts and says, “No I think you are.”
The first episode was a tangle of complicated events. According to International Business Times, it all began with Emmit’s refusal to loan his brother some money. This led to Ray enlisting the help of Maurice (Scoot McNairy) to steal a valuable vintage stamp at Emmit’s house. Unfortunately, Maurice accidentally killed off Ennis after he ended up in the wrong house.
To make matters worse, Ray and Nikki murdered Maurice after they found out about Ennis and Maurice’s demands for $5,000. In the promo for episode 2, Ray is apprehensive as he and Nikki try to figure out their next move.
Meanwhile, Vargas is set to make a big delivery for the wealthier Stussy brother. A promotional clip for the upcoming episode shows Vargas maneuvering a large truck into Emmit’s parking lot as the attendant tells him that he couldn’t park it there. Vargas replies, “Your employer gave me permission.”
Meanwhile, Emmit and Sy are in the office pondering on the contents of the truck. Sy says, “It could be anything. Booze, guns … slave girls?”
The season premiere revealed that Stussy Lots Limited, Emmit’s business, needed to make a loan after experiencing some trouble. Although the company attempted to borrow the sum needed from banks, they were turned down.
Emmit and Sy (Michael Stuhlbarg) then turned their hopes to a loan firm represented by a broker. The time has finally arrived for Emmit to pay off the loan but Vargas, a representative of the firm, informed them the money given to them wasn’t a loan. Apparently, it was an investment that helps cover-up Vargas’ employer’s illegal activities.
‘Fargo’ season 3’s episode 2, titled “The Principle of Restricted Choice,” is scheduled to air on FX on April 26, 2017. It was directed by Michael Uppendahl and written by Noah Hawley. It will be followed by episode 3, titled "The Law of Non-Contradiction," scheduled to be released on May 3 and directed by John Cameron.
