SAN DIEGO, Feb. 01, 2018 -- The Recover reports the sentencing for a pair of dealers in New Jersey caught with 45 kilos of the dangerous synthetic opioid, Fentanyl.

Jesus Carrillo-Pineda and Daniel Vasquez received 16 years combined in federal prison after police witnessed the two transferring the drugs from a tractor trailer to one of the assailants personal Mercedes.
Carrillo-Pineda was charged with 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of possession of heroin and Fentanyl with the intent to distribute. Vasquez received 6 years for similar charges.
The highly popular synthetic opioid is becoming more popular than heroin because of its potency. It is 30 to 50 times more potent than heroin, and 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. A dose as small as quarter of a milligram could be fatal, while a 200-500 mg dose of heroin is deemed fatal to a new user.
New Jersey has had a giant increase in overdose deaths from 2010, with 3,036 heroin related deaths then jumped to 12,982 to 2015.
Before he left office this month, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie fought the opioid crisis in New Jersey and beyond as a member of President Donald Trump's commission on opioid abuse.
"This is so awful," Christie said in an October interview on CNN's "New Day." "We consume 85% of all the opioids in the world in this country. We are the most medicated country in the world, and it's unnecessary."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, “We now know that overdoses from prescription opioids are a driving factor in the 16-year increase in opioid overdose deaths.
“The amount of prescription opioids sold to pharmacies, hospitals, and doctors’ offices nearly quadrupled from 1999 to 2010, yet there had not been an overall change in the amount of pain that Americans reported.
“Deaths from prescription opioids – drugs like oxycodone, hydrocodone, and methadone – have more than quadrupled since 1999.”
On Monday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Joint Criminal Opioid Darknet Enforcement team would more than double the FBI‘s investment in investigating online opioid trafficking.
