WASHINGTON, April 26, 2018 -- FierceHealthcare, a division of Questex LLC, today announced two new appointments: Tina Reed, executive editor, hospitals and health systems, overseeing the FierceHealthcare, FierceHospitals and FiercePracticeManagement publications; and Mike Stankiewicz, editor, FierceHealthPayer, focusing on health insurance, pharmacy benefits management and centers for Medicare and Medicaid services.
FierceHealthcare is a Washington-based digital media publisher that reports and publishes daily news and analysis to business professionals in life sciences, health care, telecom, technology and other industries.
Rebecca Willumson, vice president and publisher, Life Sciences & Healthcare, for FierceMarkets, a division of Questex LLC, said the new appointments reflect the group’s strategy to develop a more personal relationship with readers by establishing a clearer editorial direction and voice.
“We want our writers to become the face of our publications, with a greater emphasis on context and analysis in addition to the daily news coverage,” she said. “Tina and Mike not only possess the talent, expertise and proven track record to lead our publications forward but are high-energy and dynamic individuals who will help our publications remain well-positioned leaders in the health-care industry.”
Reed will report on national trends across health systems and hospitals. She has reported on health care for about a decade, writing on the business of health care, the explosion of precision medicine, the evolution of cancer care and innovation in the delivery of health care.
For the last four years, Reed was a health-care reporter at the Washington Business Journal. Prior to that, she was a reporter and online content editor for the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland, covering health, health care, the U.S. Naval Academy, military affairs and education stories. Reed also worked at AnnArbor.com and at the Ann Arbor News in Michigan as a business reporter and multimedia producer. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University, East Lansing, specializing in health promotion.
Prior to joining Questex, Stankiewicz was a reporter at Bloomberg Law in Arlington, Virginia, where he covered health-care regulations and congressional policy. The New York native previously was digital editor for WTOP News in Washington and a correspondent for USA TODAY in McLean, Virginia. Stankiewicz earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism at American University, Washington, and master of arts in political science and government at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg.
As part of an overall strategy to move the publications forward, Evan Sweeney has been promoted to executive editor, Payer and IT, from senior editor of FierceHealthIT. Stankiewicz will report to Sweeney. Paige Minemyer has been promoted to editor, FierceHealthcare, from associate editor. Minemyer will report to Reed.
“We warmly welcome Tina and Mike to their new roles and congratulate Evan and Paige for their promotions,” said Willumson. “I am confident they will elevate FierceHealthcare to new heights.”
