Finland’s new manufacturing orders rose modestly in the fourth quarter, driven by metal and chemical industries. The value of new orders in the Finish manufacturing sector was up 4.7 percent year-on-year in December, showed Statistics Finland. This was the second consecutive year-on-year improvement; however, just the third rebound in the whole of 2016.
In all, the fourth quarter was evidently the best quarter in 2016 in seasonally adjusted terms. However, the picture is divided. The rebound in order was totally driven by the metal and chemical industries. For the textile and paper industries, fourth quarter was the softest of the year, almost similar to the first quarter.
For the whole of 2016, new orders saw a decline of 4 percent. Just the textile industry witnessed its orders rise, whereas all others saw a decline.
