A fire was reported at a Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) facility in Visakhapatnam Monday night, Nov. 2, and a police commissioner was quoted as saying there were no casualties.

NDTV Profit reported the incident in a Press Trust of India (PTI) dispatch, citing Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankabrata Baghci. Baghci said there were no casualties. The dispatch said HPCL had not confirmed the cause.

The dispatch also referred to online footage of flames and heavy smoke. It gave no precise time or unit location, and did not say whether the fire was extinguished, what damage occurred or whether operations were disrupted.

HPCL said in an Oct. 22 results release that Visakh Refinery processed 3.60 million metric tonnes of crude during the July-September quarter and operated at 95% of capacity. The release provides recent operating context but does not identify the refinery as the site of the reported fire.
