Early U.S. midterm results pointed to stronger Democratic performance in some contests the party did not carry, France 24 reported, with control of Congress at stake for the next two years.

A Nov. 4 video report featured France 24’s Kethevane Gorjestani and Fraser Jackson discussing the initial results. The broadcaster reported turnout in the tens of millions.

France 24 said the contest was positioned as a referendum on Donald Trump’s presidency, against a backdrop of anger over fuel costs, tariffs and the Iran war.

All 435 House seats and about one-third of Senate seats were contested. The results will determine which party controls each chamber of Congress for the next two years. House members serve two-year terms, while senators serve six-year terms staggered across elections. The presidency was not on the ballot.
