France’s National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) extended the detention of a 39-year-old suspect after initial questioning over a Paris-area shooting that killed one person and wounded five; the case is being investigated as terrorism.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that police arrested the suspect Friday. His car contained a submachine gun and tear-gas grenades. Investigators said gas bottles and electrical wiring linked to a timer were found in his apartment.

AFP cited a source close to the investigation who said the apartment also contained a copy of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf, a Bible and a Koran. AFP reported that gunfire struck people while a vehicle traveled through Trappes and La Verriere.

Authorities said the 12-year-old girl remained in critical condition after bullets struck her eight times. AFP identified the person killed as Pengo Bossio Wangi, 26, describing him as an up-and-coming mixed martial arts fighter.

AFP reported that Wangi’s family said the shooter had been known to authorities. In a statement through their lawyer, the family called for an inquiry into whether the shooter had been monitored properly and how the shooter became radicalized.

Far-right candidate Marine Le Pen urged a thorough investigation and said a racist motive would be “despicable,” AFP reported. EconoTimes previously reported Macron’s description of the shooting and the bias investigation.
