France’s Yellow Vests are planning another mobilization for Oct. 31, framing it as a defense of civil liberties and accusing the government of ignoring public anger.
BFMTV reported that organizers included France’s town halls nationwide and the area outside the National Assembly in Paris among planned locations, with rallies and sit-ins on the schedule. The movement said in a statement that the executive was failing to heed public anger and accused it of contempt, lies and repression. It described the government’s course as increasingly authoritarian and said public freedoms were “under threat.”
Anadolu Ajansı reported that authorities had banned several demonstrations after violence and looting the previous week. The outlet also reported that thousands were expected to demonstrate Oct. 24 in Paris and other major cities, with rising living costs and poor teaching conditions among their concerns.
Earlier EconoTimes coverage tracked how student protests grew to involve labor unions and Yellow Vests.
