Last week's shooting killed Pengo Bossio Wangi and wounded at least five people, prompting French lawmakers to mark his death with a minute of silence Tuesday, France 24 reported.

France 24 described the attack as racist and reported that a 12-year-old girl was among those hurt.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) identified Wangi as a 26-year-old mixed martial arts fighter. AFP also reported that his family, speaking through a lawyer, said the shooter had been known to authorities. The family called for an inquiry into whether the shooter had been monitored properly and how he became radicalized.

AFP reported that far-right candidate Marine Le Pen called for a thorough investigation and said a racist motive would be “despicable.”

EconoTimes previously reported that authorities extended the suspect's detention in the case, in its earlier coverage of the detention extension.

In earlier coverage of President Emmanuel Macron's remarks and the bias investigation, EconoTimes reported that Macron called the shooting a “racist terrorist attack.” That report also said prosecutors had not announced a final finding on motive.
