Four months into 2019 and Rockstar is still maintaining their silence about their plans regarding “GTA 6.” Fortunately, there are clues all across the web hinting when the title will come out of the studio’s doors.
Among them is Rockstar’s massive hiring, which ranges from senior technical artists to high-ranking positions, Gear Nuke reported. There’s still no word from the studio where this new wave of manpower will be allocated, but speculations are pointing towards “GTA 6.”
The job description also states that new hands will be working on creating “next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects.” This could mean that the studio is trying to create titles that would run on the PlayStation 5. If so, this next-gen console and “GTA 6” may have similar release dates.
After all, even though the PS5 is touted to be backward compatible, it still needs games that would take advantage of its full potential. “GTA 6” could be that game. The problem is the previous statement of writer Dan Houser. Houser explained that it’s tricky to develop the sixth installment at the moment since it’s difficult to satirize the current events that have been happening. What’s more, he’s also worried about the toxic political climate that has emerged in recent years, with identity politics among the issues that have taken the spotlight.
“It’s really unclear what we would even do with [GTA 6], let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did. Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry,” Houser explained. “It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd. It’s hard to satirize for those reasons. Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast.”
Houser’s apprehension isn’t unfounded as Donald Trump alone is making ridiculous headlines almost weekly. Indeed, his claim that the noise produced by wind turbine causes cancer have been one of the major stories last week, both in the political and scientific community. Returning to “GTA 6” and its possible release date, it could come out sometime between 2021 and 2022 since these are also the projected years that the PlayStation 5 may hit the market.
