GXO Logistics plans to expand use of Agility Robotics’ humanoid robots to two more U.S. sites in 2027, after Digit moved more than 100,000 totes at its Georgia facility.

The planned locations are GXO operations in Statesville, North Carolina, and Lebanon, Tennessee. The companies expect Digit 4 to be the initial model, with deployments beginning in early 2027. They plan to transition to Digit 5 once it is commercially available, but have not set a date for the change.

The robots are expected to assist with online-order fulfillment and routine material handling. GXO’s initial test at its Flowery Branch, Georgia, operation began in late 2023. There, Digit moved totes to conveyors while other automation continued to operate. GXO and Agility signed a multiyear Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) agreement in June 2024. GXO described the project as two industry firsts: a formal commercial use of humanoid robots and a humanoid deployment under a RaaS model.

Agility said Digit had exceeded 65,000 operating hours in real-world settings across the company’s commercial work and customer programs. That total was not specific to GXO.

Agility’s Sept. 15, 2026, release was included in a filing Churchill Capital Corp. XI submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission. The release projected an early-access phase for Digit 5 in the first half of 2027, followed by general availability for warehouse, manufacturing and distribution operators by year-end.

GXO CEO Patrick Kelleher said, “Innovation is most powerful when it delivers practical solutions that create value for our customers and our people.” The companies described the rollout as a way to improve working conditions for GXO teams and deliver value to customers. They have not disclosed planned robot counts, RaaS fees, projected savings or employment effects. Deployments are expected to begin in early 2027.
