“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is going to be the final installment for the epic fantasy saga. And with the show having a history of killing characters both minor and major, it’s likely that a lot of deaths will occur during season 8 as well.
This fact is even more solidified when Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Missandei, told Hindustan Times (via Express) that “Game of Thrones” Season 8 will both be mind-blowing and heartbreaking. The question now is who among the characters is going to get put on the chopping block.
Two likely candidates for this are Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), with the latter’s death being the more probable. The reason for this is the prophecy stated in the books, which proclaimed that a terrible weapon will be forged with a loving wife’s heart. And since the show will pick up where it left off in the previous installment, it’s likely that “Game of Thrones” Season 8 will depict how exactly this weapon is going to be forged.
Daenerys is a likely candidate since she’s now the lover of Jon Snow, who is believed to be Azor Ahai, the very warrior who is prophesized to wield this wicked blade. It’s possible that she’s going to be sacrificed or choose to offer herself as one in “Game of Thrones” Season 8 in order for Jon to obtain the weapon and defeat the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) once and for all.
This will fit in nicely with Emmanuel’s comment about the finale being heartbreaking since Jon and Daenerys have just started their romance together. As for the mind-blowing part, it’s likely referring to multiple plot twists in “Game of Thrones” Season 8 since the show has a penchant to use this literary technique.
And speaking of plot twists, another potential heart-wrenching moment would be if the theory that Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) is actually the Night King holds true. If this is the case, then Jon would have to kill his half-brother himself using a weapon forged through the sacrifice of Daenerys. Now that would be quite the ending for “Game of Thrones” Season 8, which will surely leave fans on their knees.
Whatever the case, followers of the show will have to wait until next year to find out how the conflict between the living and the dead will conclude. Showrunners have yet to reveal the exact date when “Game of Thrones” Season 8 will air but the next installment is expected to return around the second quarter of 2019.
