Global Geopolitical Series: Iran calls on U.S. to rejoin JCPoA

Iran is reportedly trying to pursue the United States to rejoin the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA), better known as the Iran nuclear deal, as the only international measure Tehran will agree to as a measure to curb its nuclear activity. The Trump administration at the United States moved out of the International pact that was agreed to in 2015 between Iran and six world powers earlier this year and re-imposed sanctions on Iran, a part which went into effect beginning August and the rest will be live by November.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasimi on Thursday openly called on the US to return to the landmark nuclear deal explaining it as the best option for America and added, “I hope the US views Iran – and the region in general – in a positive light and doesn’t repeat its past mistakes as the situation in the Middle East is very sensitive”. He called on the European Union to work to correct Trump’s Iran policy and advise him on Asia and the Middle East policymaking. He further added that Russia and China should also work on convincing the U.S. President to remain a party to the agreement.

However, Knowing President Trump so far, it doesn’t look like that Iran would be able to convince the President to change the policy course, even with the help of the Europeans, Chinese, and Russians as they have already struggled so much to keep him engaged in other international deals; Paris Climate Accord, and Trans-Pacific Partnership.
