Dublin, March 07, 2016 -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/z958f7/hernia_mesh) has announced the addition of the "Hernia Mesh Devices Market - Global Forecast to 2020" report to their offering.
The global hernia mesh devices market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.0% from 2015 to 2020 to reach a market size of USD 3.73 Billion by 2020.
According to information available from hospital morbidity database (HMDB), HCUP, and others, it is estimated that around 10.9 million hernia repair surgeries were performed globally in 2014, and this number is projected to reach -12 million by 2020, increasing at a compound annual growth rate of 1.8% from 2015 to 2020.
This report studies inguinal, umbilical, hiatal, femoral, incisional, and other types of hernia. Inguinal hernia is the most common type and constituted 55.8% of the total number of hernia surgeries in 2014, followed by incisional/ventral hernia repair surgeries at 17.2%. Femoral hernia occurs very rarely and accounted for just 1.5% of the total hernia repair surgeries in 2014.
Obesity, excessive physical activity, and age are the main factors responsible for the occurrence of hernia. Of the 10.9 million hernia surgeries globally in 2014, majority of surgeries were performed in APAC, followed by Europe and Americas. However, since the price of mesh constitutes the major portion of the surgery cost, majority of the patient pool from underdeveloped and developing countries either don't take treatment or choose suture over mesh.
Due to this, in terms of total hernia repair surgeries performed using mesh, the Americas accounted for majority of surgeries. However, due to its huge patient pool, APAC contributed largest share in terms of volume of the total hernia surgeries, followed by Europe and the Americas, in 2014.
The Americas led the market in terms of volume or consumption of hernia mesh implants, followed by Europe and APAC. In terms of revenue, America holds the largest share, followed by Europe and APAC in 2014. The scenario is not expected to change much, although APAC is expected to grab some share from Europe and America due to betterment of healthcare infrastructure and increasing awareness about hernia repair surgeries in this region.
