Global geopolitical Series: Sino-American relation enters cold war phase

Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, Russia is no longer the enemy no. 1 when it comes to meddling, it is China. While Russia has been accused of U.S. election meddling since the victory of Donald Trump in 2016 by U.S. lawmakers, President Trump commented earlier this year that China is trying to meddle in the U.S. mid-term election.

Recently, there have been reports that China has been sending manipulated hardware fitted with super-microchip to infiltrate U.S. companies. The attack by Chinese spies reached almost 30 U.S. companies, including Amazon and Apple, by compromising America’s technology supply chain, according to extensive interviews with government and corporate sources. China has long been a major supplier of technology hardware due to the low cost of manufacturing.

In response to the recent hack reports and as a part of its ongoing trade battle with China, The White House has stepped up its rhetoric towards China, with the U.S. Vice President Mike Pence declaring that the notorious Russian interference and meddling of 2016 election pales in comparison to Beijing’s influence in US affairs. His speech targeting China made it clear that the United States and China are entering into a cold war phase. Here you can read the full speech, https://www.hudson.org/events/1610-vice-president-mike-pence-s-remarks-on-the-administration-s-policy-towards-china102018

These remarks should clear any doubts that the next phase of Sino-American relation would be a turbulent one and will be full of conflicts.
