An explosion at Fábrica de Municiones de Granada (FMG) left Andalusia’s 112 emergency service reporting three workers taken for assessment; owner Czechoslovak Group (CSG) reported two minor hearing injuries and no damage to production facilities.

On Friday, Oct. 30, the emergency service said it coordinated a response after receiving more than 30 calls. It said three men, ages 40, 51 and 58, were taken to Hospital Virgen de las Nieves for assessment of minor hearing problems.

The accounts also differed on the blast site. Granada police identified the area where gunpowder is burned, according to ABC. CSG described it as a demilitarization area where old, damaged or unusable ammunition is handled.

CSG reported no fatalities or serious injuries and no damage to civilian property. It said the incident was not expected to affect FMG’s output over the long term and that it was cooperating with authorities to determine the cause.

CSG lists FMG’s products as tank and artillery ammunition, propellant, and components used in ammunition and missiles. The company says it is among the principal industrial partners in the Czech Ammunition Initiative, which aims to increase artillery ammunition supplies for Ukraine.

Local broadcaster 101TV separately reported that a truck from the factory lost part of its cargo, including mortar grenades and other explosives, near El Fargue on Oct. 13. The outlet said no one was injured.
