A Nov. 5 drop in U.S. stocks put fresh attention on whether major technology companies can earn revenue from artificial intelligence (AI) investment, deVere Group CEO Nigel Green said.

The S&P 500 lost 4.4% during the session. The Nasdaq Composite declined 5.5%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 3.4%, and the Cboe Volatility Index climbed as much as 70% intraday before settling at 27.01, up 62.61%.

Green's remarks centered on companies' control of customer relationships and the operational needs behind AI growth. He pointed to power availability for data centers and revenue generated by AI investment as measures investors could weigh.

The discussion also included political risk, as election outcomes could slow or limit new data-center projects. Green expects company results and revenue from AI investment to help investors compare the largest technology firms individually.
