President Donald Trump used a Friday Truth Social post to claim his Iran policy protected Israel, defending the war days after saying U.S. annual payments to Israel would stop by year-end.

Trump wrote that Israel and the “entire Middle East” would not exist today if he had not stopped Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. NDTV reported on the post.

The post came days after Trump said the United States would stop annual payments to Israel by year-end. He did not specify whether the statement covered military financing, missile defense or both, as EconoTimes noted in its earlier report on the payment statement.

NDTV reported that Trump had made similar arguments in a Fox & Friends interview and during a June appearance in the Oval Office. At a Nov. 1 rally in Iowa, he also said he had stopped Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, the outlet reported.

NDTV said Democrats won both chambers of Congress in the midterms. At his first post-election speech, a reporter asked Trump about Vice President JD Vance’s social media post blaming the Iran war for Republican losses. Trump called that assessment “largely true” and said he would not have made a different decision.
