An investigation in Egypt’s Giza Governorate is examining why 20 wedding guests became ill and required hospital care after a reception, Gulf News reported, with laboratory findings still pending.

Citing unnamed local media, the outlet said the guests had eaten lupin beans served at the wedding. They later reported abdominal pain, vomiting and severe fatigue. The beans are called termos locally.

Gulf News said emergency services were called to the reception. The guests were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were examined and placed under observation, according to the report.

Authorities collected bean samples for testing as they investigated the illnesses, the outlet said. The tests are intended to help determine whether the beans were responsible.

No official finding has identified what made the guests ill, Gulf News reported. Investigators are awaiting the laboratory results to assess whether food served at the reception was contaminated.
