Gulf News reported Mayon Volcano in Albay erupted around 11:47 p.m. EDT Thursday, while the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) listed Alert Level 2 for an earlier period.

Gulf News placed the reported eruption at around 11:47 a.m. Friday in Albay (03:47 UTC Friday) and said a boom was heard around noon local time (12 a.m. EDT Friday; 04:00 UTC). The PHIVOLCS bulletin does not confirm the eruption or boom: its 24-hour observations ended at midnight at the start of Oct. 30 in the Philippines (noon EDT Oct. 29; 16:00 UTC).

For that earlier period, PHIVOLCS recorded Alert Level 2. It advised people to stay outside the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone and said aircraft should keep away from the volcano.

Gulf News also reported a later Level 3 status, which the earlier bulletin does not establish. The outlet pointed to subsequent PHIVOLCS updates on danger-zone guidance and volcanic activity as developments to watch.
