Harley-Davidson, Inc. reported third-quarter net income attributable to the company of $42.8 million, down from $377.4 million a year earlier, and raised its 2026 operating income forecasts for two businesses.
The company’s release put net income attributable to Harley-Davidson at $42.762 million; GAAP net income was $40.943 million. Much of the year-over-year comparison reflected a transaction by Harley-Davidson Financial Services (HDFS) in the prior-year quarter, the company said. The sale covered most of the unit’s securitization beneficial interests and retail finance receivables. HDFS recorded operating income of $10.8 million in the latest quarter, compared with $438.8 million a year earlier.
Harley-Davidson Motor Company (HDMC) revenue fell 10% to $964 million, while its operating income declined 18% to $44 million. Worldwide motorcycle retail sales increased 5%, including a 9% rise in North America. The company said North American retail sales had grown for a fourth consecutive quarter.
Harley-Davidson shipped 33,616 motorcycles globally, 8% fewer than a year earlier. It said lower dealer-bound volume helped support dealer health and brought shipments more in line with customer sales. Dealer inventories of new motorcycles were 26% below the year-earlier level.
For 2026, Harley-Davidson raised its HDMC operating income forecast to $25 million to $55 million and its HDFS forecast to $60 million to $70 million. It set a capital investment range of $140 million to $165 million. LiveWire withdrew its guidance. The company also said it returned $110 million to shareholders in the quarter, including $91 million in share repurchases and $19 million in dividends.
A Form 8-K filed Oct. 29 with the Securities and Exchange Commission listed results disclosures and director matters. Harley-Davidson said Anthony D. Fassino and Bryan E. Slone joined its board as independent directors, effective Oct. 28, bringing the board to 10 members.
