Hindustan Times reported that 25% of respondents who said they voted for President Donald Trump in 2024 planned to support Democratic candidates in the November 2026 midterms, a potential crossover within the surveyed group.

The outlet said HIT Strategies conducted the survey for Indian American Impact and reported that 60% of respondents overall planned to support Democrats. The poll included 800 voters, about 90% of them Indian American. Hindustan Times did not report the field dates, sampling or weighting methods, margin of error, or the number of Trump 2024 voters behind the 25% result.

Indian American Impact Executive Director Chintan Patel told Hindustan Times, “This community can make the margin.” The same report said 90% of respondents had experienced discrimination or knew someone who had; nearly half said they had experienced it personally. It also reported that nearly 90% viewed discrimination against Muslim Americans as at least a moderate problem, compared with 70% for Sikh Americans and 64% for Hindu Americans.

A separate 2026 Asian American Voter Survey found that 66% of Asian Indian respondents preferred Democratic candidates for both the U.S. House and Senate. Republican candidates drew 18% preference for the House and 22% for the Senate. The Asian Indian subgroup counts were 242 for the House question and 148 for the Senate question. NORC at the University of Chicago conducted the survey for APIAVote and AAPI Data, collecting 2,066 interviews from June 3 to July 27, 2026. It asked about hypothetical congressional candidates.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s 2026 survey, conducted with YouGov, found that 71% of 1,000 Indian American adults disapproved of Trump’s job performance and 29% approved. The survey ran from Nov. 25, 2025, to Jan. 6, 2026, and measured presidential approval rather than midterm vote plans. The reported 25% is a stated intention ahead of the November 2026 midterms, not an election result.
