The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) expanded Ensemble TX to support 24-hour interbank settlement of tokenized deposit transactions in tokenised Central Bank Money (CeBM), citing the needs of an increasingly global, always-on digital market.
The HKMA said Monday, Nov. 2, that 12 banks and 20 industry pioneers are participating. The capability lets the banks settle these transactions at any hour.
Ensemble TX began in November 2025, with interbank settlements handled through the Hong Kong dollar Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system. Its initial use cases included tokenized money-market fund transactions and real-time liquidity and treasury management.
The HKMA cited corporate treasury management and tokenized fund transactions as potential uses for the new capability. It also outlined further coordination with the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) on Hong Kong’s tokenized financial ecosystem.
Separately, the SFC said around-the-clock secondary trading in the ChinaAMC HKD Digital Money Market Fund and ChinaAMC USD Digital Money Market Fund began Monday, Oct. 26, on an SFC-licensed virtual asset trading platform.
Eddie Yue, chief executive of the HKMA, said commercialisation of tokenised deposits and digital assets “will gain momentum.”
