Hong Kong’s Center for Food Safety (CFS) announced a poultry import suspension for Lolland Municipality in Denmark and Jackson County in Minnesota after H5N1 outbreaks, Xinhua reported, citing the agency. The measure is intended to protect public health.

The CFS instructed importers to suspend imports with immediate effect Tuesday. The restriction covers poultry meat, eggs and other poultry products from the two areas.

The agency said it acted after receiving a notification from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration. It also cited the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH); both notifications concerned highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the affected areas.
