Huawei-Backed Luxeed S7 Launches, Aims to Rival Xiaomi SU7 with Advanced Features

The newly unveiled Luxeed S7 by Huawei, positioned as a direct competitor to Xiaomi SU7, showcasing cutting-edge technology.

Huawei and Chery have introduced the Luxeed S7, an enhanced competitor to the Xiaomi SU7, boasting impressive technological upgrades and a range exceeding 630 km per charge. This launch marks a significant step in the electric vehicle market, with the S7 featuring state-of-the-art driving systems and competitive pricing.

Luxeed S7 Expands Lineup: New Models and Advanced Features at Competitive Prices

The Luxeed S7 range now includes five models with official prices ranging from 249,800 to 349,800 yuan (34,500-48,350 USD), identical to the previous price range. There are also incentives worth up to 30,000 yuan (4,150 USD) for interior upgrades, gift packs, and Huawei ADS 2.0 add-ons. The models are as follows:

Eight Huawei “black technologies” power the car, including the Turing intelligent chassis, HarmonyOS 4-powered intelligent cockpit, Huawei ADS, and the Huawei DriveOne 800V silicon carbide high-efficiency platform, which benefits all cars. The base Pro version's range has increased significantly from 550 km to 705 km thanks to an 82-kWh battery. It can add 353 kilometers of range in 15 minutes and has an acceleration time of 5.4 seconds. The Pro is guided by the Huawei ADS Basic Intelligent Driving system based on vision.

According to CNC, Max versions include the Huawei ADS high-end intelligent driving system, which uses a roof-mounted Lidar unit. The Max+ battery capacity is up to 100 kWh, giving the car an 855 km CLTC range and the ability to add 430 km of range in 15 minutes. Heating, ventilation, and massage for the front seats and heating and ventilation for the back seats have been added to the Max+, along with something called shoulder pillow audio.

Luxeed S7 Max RS and Ultra Editions Push Performance and Comfort to New Heights

The S7 Max RS 4WD Performance Edition has a smaller battery pack (82 kWh) but compensates with dual motors and CDC/air suspension. The dual motor version's acceleration is reduced to 3.3 seconds; however, with the smaller battery, the range is reduced to 630 km, which can be increased to 315 km in 15 minutes. All-wheel drive versions include a 150-kW motor on the front axle. Brembo high-performance brake calipers and FNC high-performance perforated brake discs have also been added, as there is a queen passenger seat with zero gravity, massage, ventilation, heating, and electric leg rest.

The S7 Ultra is the brand's latest model and its flagship. The only difference from the S7 Max RS 4WD Performance Edition is that it recharges the battery to 100 kWh. That gives the Ultra a range of 751 km, with the ability to add 375 km in 15 minutes.

Supercharge

According to the version, the Luxeed S7 can add 215 kilometers of range in five minutes and consumes as little as 12.4 kWh per 100 kilometers. Huawei's SuperCharge high-voltage charging technology is being introduced and compatible with the industry's mainstream charging protocols. The car uses several smart ways to maximize range. There is a super power saving mode 2.0, which claims to increase range by up to 10% by unlocking the entire battery's charge.

Charging issues are addressed using the car's systems. The app allows users to remotely set charging times for home chargers to take advantage of off-peak rates. Drivers can plug and charge using third-party, public chargers connected to the Huawei extended network without scanning codes or using third-party apps.

In addition, the system intelligently monitors the route and remaining charges to provide timely charging suggestions. There is also an intelligent adaptive charging system in which the battery can be dynamically heated en route to the charging station, allowing for faster charging during the winter.

The Huawei intelligent thermal management system (TMS) manages range depreciation in cold weather by intelligently controlling cabin heating. The air conditioning system is linked to the seat sensors, so warm air is only directed to seats with passengers. When the heated steering wheel function is used with the AC, it optimizes heating to save energy while maintaining driver comfort.

The system is designed to keep the car's air temperature stable while using as little power as possible. This reduces energy consumption by 15% while increasing the range by about 20 kilometers.

Huawei also incorporates a battery management system (BMS) into the car, as well as 13 layers of hard-core safety protection, thickened side impact beams, and a high-strength impact beam under the car to ensure the battery's safety. According to the company, no cars owned by Huawei's partners that have used the system have caught fire in the last three years.

ADS Version

The Luxeed S7 Pro features 10 high-definition cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 3-millimeter wavelength radars to provide a visually intelligent driving system. This enables the car to use NCA (Navigation Cruise Assist) on highways and urban expressways, including automated on and off ramps. Under NCA, it can automatically change lanes and avoid obstacles.

The parking system not only allows for automated parking in vertical, parallel, and oblique spaces, but it can also handle parking in more complex situations like extremely narrow spaces. Parking space recognition is 96%, with a success rate of up to 95%.

The high-end ADS system adds a Lidar unit to the sensors, allowing the car to perform Urban NCA. It is not dependent on high-precision mapping and covers the majority of roads in China, particularly those in cities and rural areas. Huawei claims coverage of 99.56% of roads.

A 192-line lidar gives the vehicle a maximum detection range of 250 m, which is 20% greater than the industry average. The systems improve the collision avoidance system's effective range. Forward AEB now operates at speeds ranging from 4 to 140 km/h, lateral active safety at 40 to 130 km/h, and rear support at 1 to 60 km/h, with active identification of pedestrians, vehicles, and other obstacles.

Production

Luxeed is a car brand created jointly by Chery and Huawei that sells through the Huawei store network. Deliveries of the new versions will begin immediately, with Chery stating they can roll a car off the assembly line every minute. Chery claims that it is manufactured on the world's most advanced production line for body stamping, which is completely automated, and that it employs aviation-grade manufacturing precision, with body clearance of the surface detected by laser to an accuracy of 0.1 mm. To ensure quality, each car goes through 10,000 tests before it leaves the production line.
