Huawei said Study Group 13 of the International Telecommunication Union’s Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T SG13) and the World Broadband Association (WBBA) launched an initiative in Vienna to strengthen IP networks as carriers pursue AI business models. The company named the effort “Build Resilient, Secure IP Networks Together” and said the summit took place during the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum 2026.
Huawei said GSMA Intelligence presented its research at the summit. The organization’s site lists A target architecture for telecoms cybersecurity as a July 2026 publication, 25 pages long and based on a survey of Asia Pacific operators. Its public summary says the study examines security risks tied to cloud-native infrastructure, open interfaces, AI and closer links between information technology and communications technology.
The GSMA summary describes cybersecurity as a network architecture issue and discusses protections built into systems, layered defenses, coordinated security operations and AI-enabled tools.
Huawei’s account said representatives of ITU-T SG13 and AV-TEST warned that AI was increasing the speed and scale of cyberattacks. The company presented the warning alongside the initiative’s call for stronger network security and resilience as carriers develop AI-related commercial models.
