Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Extell Development Company plan a roughly 1,800-room hotel in Manhattan’s Theater District with an enclosed free-fall ride and rooftop pool, targeting the second half of 2028 for opening.
The StandardX Times Square is planned for 255 W. 45th St. Hyatt says its observation deck will be more than 1,000 feet above Manhattan. The company has not announced a more precise elevation.
The proposed attractions also include restaurants, bars, nightlife venues and a rooftop bar and lounge. Hyatt says some shared areas are intended for New Yorkers as well as people staying at the hotel. Those spaces are planned for street level and other parts of the property.
The project would bring the StandardX brand to North America for the first time. Hyatt describes StandardX as a more pared-back branch of The Standard, with simpler rooms and more casual service. The company calls the Times Square hotel a flagship, but says it will not set the pattern for future properties.
Hyatt Chief Creative Officer Amar Lalvani said much of the activity normally found around a StandardX hotel would take place inside the Times Square property. “A lot of it will be happening right inside the building,” Lalvani said.
Hyatt said it plans to share more information about the hotel’s design, dining and nightlife concepts later. The company has not provided an exact opening date beyond the second half of 2028.
