Lori Vallow Daybell’s Idaho appeal asks the state Supreme Court to overturn convictions linked to her children’s deaths and a conspiracy to kill Tammy Daybell, with her lawyer disputing the trial process, The Independent reported.

Her lawyer argues that the trial judge erred by disqualifying Vallow Daybell’s preferred attorney after finding a conflict because the lawyer had represented both her and Chad Daybell. The lawyer also says the court did not bring the case to trial quickly enough. Another challenge concerns jurors hearing about gun incidents involving Charles Vallow and Brandon Boudreaux near Phoenix, the report said.

The Arizona convictions are separate from the Idaho case. The Independent reported that Vallow Daybell was convicted of conspiring to kill Charles Vallow, her estranged husband, and Brandon Boudreaux, her niece’s former husband. She received two life sentences for those convictions and has appealed them, the outlet said. Charles Vallow was fatally shot by Vallow Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox, in Chandler in July 2019 after filing for divorce. The report said investigators later raised questions about Cox’s assertion that he acted in self-defense. Nearly three months later, someone fired at Boudreaux from a Jeep while he was driving toward his Gilbert home, narrowly missing him. Prosecutors identified Cox as the shooter, according to the report. Prosecutors also alleged Vallow Daybell and Cox plotted to kill Charles so she could collect life insurance proceeds and marry Chad Daybell, then her boyfriend.

The Idaho convictions concern the deaths of Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16, and a conspiracy to kill Tammy Daybell. Chad Daybell and Vallow Daybell married weeks after Tammy Daybell died. The children disappeared in 2019, and The Independent reported that their bodies were later found buried on property in rural Idaho owned by Chad Daybell. The outlet said Vallow Daybell received three life terms in Idaho and Chad Daybell received a death sentence.

The Idaho Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the appeal Monday, according to The Independent.
