U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar said she plans to leave her Washington home, citing death threats and concern that people could track her children because her address is public.
In an Oct. 21 interview with MS NOW, Omar said it was “no longer going to be feasible to be in that house.” She said her children visit periodically and she does not want people tracking them. CBS News reported she was still working out where to move.
CBS News and the Associated Press reported agents searched Omar's Washington home on Oct. 12. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) said Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents carried out the search under a warrant authorized by a judge. The department described the matter as a continuing federal criminal investigation but has not publicly detailed its focus.
CBS News, citing sources, reported investigators were examining possible false statements and immigration fraud involving paperwork from Omar's childhood.
Omar's office called the search political intimidation and an abuse of power, and said she had done nothing wrong. President Donald Trump told reporters, “That's really up to the DOJ; I have nothing to do with it.” Omar is seeking reelection in the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
