India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Tuesday it was coordinating with Oman to return 13 rescued Indian nationals and the remains of a crew member killed in an attack on a vessel near Limah.

The ministry said 14 Indian nationals were aboard the commercial vessel MSV AL JUSUFI when it was attacked on Nov. 2. Thirteen were rescued, and one died from injuries.

The Indian Embassy in Oman is working with Omani authorities to arrange the return of the survivors and the deceased crew member’s remains, the ministry said.

In its statement Tuesday, New Delhi condemned the attack and said repeated assaults on commercial vessels in the region were alarming. It called for tensions to be reduced immediately and for ongoing negotiations toward a diplomatic solution to be completed.

The ministry also demanded an end to attacks on both commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure, and urged a prompt return to lawful passage and trade through international waterways.
