India’s National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) will hold a special stock-trading session Nov. 8, 2026, for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, giving investors a brief chance to trade at the start of the traditional Samvat year.

The NSE traces the market tradition to 1957 and links it to the start of the Samvat year. Orders executed during the live session create trades with settlement duties. NSE and BSE Ltd. had previously listed the date while saying hours would be announced separately, as EconoTimes reported in its earlier coverage of the Diwali trading session.

The Economic Times and TeamLease RegTech reported that an NSE circular dated Oct. 19 set pre-open activity at 3:35 a.m. ET (08:35 UTC) and the start of continuous trading at 3:50 a.m. ET (08:50 UTC). The reported continuous-trading close is 4:45 a.m. ET (09:45 UTC) for stocks covered by a closing auction and 5 a.m. ET (10:00 UTC) for other stocks.

Investors place orders through brokers. The NSE’s circular for its 2025 session says an executed trade creates a settlement duty. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) says investors need a demat account to hold securities electronically, a trading account with a registered broker to buy or sell them, and a bank account for payments. SEBI also advises investors to choose products based on their goals and risk appetite and to check trade confirmations and holdings.

NSE research found that the Nifty 50 fell in five of the 20 Muhurat sessions from 2005 through 2024. The exchange counted 2.45 million individual participants in its cash market during the 2024 session. The next scheduled session is Nov. 8, 2026.
