India’s Ministry of Power appointed longtime Power Grid executive Pankaj Pandey as Director (Operations), setting up a leadership transition at a utility that the company describes as India’s largest electricity transmission utility.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited disclosed the decision in an Oct. 30 filing, which says the ministry conveyed the appointment. Pandey’s term begins when he assumes charge on or after Dec. 1; the filing gives no exact start date.

Pandey is due to succeed Director (Operations) Naveen Srivastava. Srivastava assumed the post Aug. 8, 2024, and his appointment is scheduled to end with his superannuation on Nov. 30, 2026, or earlier under further orders. Pandey’s appointment runs until his scheduled superannuation on June 30, 2030, or until further orders, whichever comes first.

Pandey joined Power Grid as an executive trainee in 1993, after graduating in electrical engineering from MNREC Allahabad in 1991. The company promoted him to executive director on Sept. 4, 2023. A company disclosure lists his experience in contract services, tariff-based competitive bidding and regulatory matters.

Power Grid’s figures for Sept. 30, 2026, put its network at 187,576 circuit kilometers of lines and 293 substations, with system availability of 99.81%. The company identifies power transmission as its main business and describes itself as India’s largest electricity transmission utility.

Power Grid’s 2023-24 annual report says tariffs for projects awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding are determined by the lowest bid over a 35-year period. The company’s profile lists that bidding work among Pandey’s areas of experience. Power Grid said further appointment details would be provided “upon assumption of charge by Shri Pankaj Pandey.”
