DALLAS, Jan. 31, 2018 -- Tellabs, the leading provider of Passive Optical LAN (POL) solutions, will be at BICSI Winter Conference (booth #1201) showcasing a demonstration of a Tellabs™ Optical LAN system operating 2.5G ITU G.984 PON simultaneous over a common optical distribution network supporting symmetrical 10G ITU G.989 PON. This industry-first display proves that customers deploying today’s PON technology can support future bi-directional 10 gigabit connectivity speeds over the same infrastructure without the disruptive rip-and-replace that happens with traditional copper-based IT networks. The demonstration will be powered by Alpha Technologies, the power behind the evolution of communications networks, with testing and monitoring provided by EXFO.
This display shows how today’s PON users can upgrade to future 10G connectivity speeds without having to replace existing equipment, cabling, splitters and powering systems. This is a true breakthrough when compared to the disruptive rip-and-replace that occurs with legacy copper-based IT networks.
- The Tellabs Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Terminals (ONT) will demonstrate that 2.5G ITU G.984 PON simultaneous over a common Optical distribution network supporting 10G ITU G.989 PON can be delivered via the same system, and better yet, from the same PON service module – another industry first.
- The Alpha Technologies eLimiter+ Class 2 Remote Power Distribution Unit showcases the ability to remotely power 10G ONTs along with today’s PON architectures.
- EXFO’s new PON Power Meter - PPM-350D - will demonstrate accurate and simultaneous power level measurement of downstream and upstream signals supporting wavelengths for both next-gen PON and legacy G-PON. That means that the investment in existing single-mode fiber and passive optical splitter installed inside buildings and across campus network is protected.
“Our symmetrical 10 gigabit OLAN solution strategy is that it minimizes the impact on our existing customers and ensures today’s infrastructure is leveraged. We are on pace to deliver the latest 10G PON technology, in the best form-factor, utilizing the least amount of power and providing the best cost value to our customers,” said Jim Norrod, Tellabs President and CEO.
“The eLimiter+ provides users with the ability to avoid costly and cumbersome AC power at the ONT. The Class 2 design meets NEC requirements, increases overall network reliability and lowers the total cost of ownership,” said Grant Clark, Alpha Technologies Vice President of Product Management & Development. “It’s exciting to provide part of the infrastructure continuity that enables POL networks to deliver more bandwidth in the future.”
“EXFO’s innovative PPM-350D automatically detects and adjusts to the standard thresholds for next-gen and legacy passive optical network technologies, ensuring error-free readings for the service installers,” said Stephane Chabot, EXFO’s Vice President, Test and Measurement. “Seeing our test solutions in action over a real XGS-PON setup is a great opportunity for our customers to witness the interoperability of EXFO’s innovations with a system vendor such as Tellabs.”
