Adam Mosseri, Instagram's head, said Monday the platform is testing a U.S. feature that lets creators connect a Reel with a horizontal video lasting up to 90 minutes.
Instagram calls the format Features; its limited U.S. test follows earlier trials involving creators in Brazil. A creator can use a Reel as a route to the longer video. Mosseri outlined the test while speaking on video with Tessa Lyons, Instagram's vice president of product.
Mosseri said he had previously opposed long-form video on Instagram. Lyons said Reels would remain a core part of the platform. Instagram is also exploring profile collections of Reels and changes that could help users discover live videos.
In June, Meta said it was testing an Instagram destination for horizontal video on television and examining whether creators could offer longer videos for TV.
